Glad you appreciated it. One of Julie’s ironclad rules was “no A. I. anything!” It’s a good rule to live by, despite the interesting developments in the space.

I assume they never updated the firmware to add any sort of burn-in prevention either?

It came from across the ocean, don’t remember the country. Got as far as Calgary and has been sitting there for over a month. I would not recommend this company to anybody. Now I have to probably fight to get my money back which I doubt I will get. Buy North American. Made is now my motto.

I use them to take notes as reminders through the day. I would be lost without a pen, or pencil.

Comment on 5 EDC Pens That Actually Stay in Your Pocket by Thomas Wolf https://the-gadgeteer.com/2026/02/10/5-edc-pens-that-actually-stay-in-your-pocket/#comment-8219602 Wed, 11 Feb 2026 08:27:47 +0000 https://the-gadgeteer.com/?p=497887#comment-8219602 “That’s backward priority management, because the pen fails more often, gets used in more contexts, and causes more frustration than almost any other carry item.” Are these really true statements or just a convenient intro to a review of an item that’s become almost irrelevant as an EDC in these modern times.

I don’t know how representative my wife and I are, but it must have been a decade or more since we last had a pen – of any sort – as an EDC. What do you even need one for anymore? The rare signature on a physical document? An address on an envelope or package? But even in those rare use cases, there’s usually a pen provided or laying around to be used.

A keyring box cutter or screw driver bit are useful EDCs because in the contexts where they become useful, unlike a pen, there’s usually no equivalent alternative laying around.

We have three EDCs: our smartphones, our keys (with above-mentioned add-ons and an AirTag), and a magnetic wallet for the phone (for id, credit card, and some paper money). And these days, unless we go on vacation, we don’t even bring the wallet.

Yup, actual reviews seem to be non existent. They should have changed the name of the site when it was purchased. It seems that the whole feel of the site with honest hands on reviews is gone for good and replaced with Ai Bot type generated articles.

Comment on Ricoh’s New Pocket Camera Costs $2,200 and Removes the Ability to Shoot Color by John Kes https://the-gadgeteer.com/2026/02/08/ricohs-new-pocket-camera-costs-2200-and-removes-the-ability-to-shoot-color/#comment-8219593 Mon, 09 Feb 2026 19:00:54 +0000 https://the-gadgeteer.com/?p=497671#comment-8219593 Digital camera manufacturers have been overexaggerating all this time. 24 MP actually means there are 6 MP red + 12 MP green + 6 MP blue. But the resulting image doesn’t show those 24 million pixels that way. Software interpolates what the color of each pixel ought to be then outputs that as the 24 MP image, so inaccuracies can occur. This camera gives non-interpolated results for all 25.74 MP. No software-induced inaccuracies.

Cameras on space probes do the same thing. Monochrome at the sensor level, then use filters on the lenses to get color data.

Hi Ezequiel, I would recommend contacting the company. I know a lot of these batteries on different bikes and tools often have the led displays go bad. Hopefully they will send you a new one if it is still under warranty.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess that as far as the USB-C plug, I’m just a tad behind the times. I’ve contacted Baseus customer service abut the 3.5mm cord not fitting into the headphones.

Im sorry to hear that. I don’t know how much help I can be here. Regarding the USB cord; I don’t think you got shortchanged here. USB-A is an ever receding standard, and I think they are assuming most people that buy the headphones will have a charging brick that accepts USB-C. As for the aux cord… Sorry I’m at a loss. The aux cord I was sent does fit the headphones. Unless you are referring to trying to plug it into another device that could have the smaller 2.5mm jack or even the larger 6.5mm jack?

Comment on PoP Video pico projector – Big Picture in Your Pocket by dotitab398 https://the-gadgeteer.com/2012/05/09/pop-video-pico-projector-big-picture-in-your-pocket/#comment-8219556 Wed, 04 Feb 2026 14:06:07 +0000 http://the-gadgeteer.com/?p=95412#comment-8219556 Man, seeing “iPhone 4S” and a pre-order date of 2012 really takes me back! It’s wild to look at the specs now—specifically that qHD (960×540) resolution. At the time, having a projector that size in your pocket felt like absolute magic, even if the picture was a bit grainy by today’s 4K standards.

I actually stumbled upon this while looking up retro tech to integrate into a “museum” corner in my home office. I’ve mostly moved away from these direct-connect portable gadgets and rely on a central media server now. I even recently had to install a dedicated 1-port network interface card https://serverorbit.com/network-devices/network-interface-cards/1-port-en in my main rig just to ensure I had a stable enough connection to stream high-bitrate video to modern wireless screens, rather than relying on dongles.

It makes me wonder, though—does anyone still have one of these working in their drawer? I’m curious if that lithium-ion battery actually managed to hold a charge after a decade.

The charging cord is USB-C on both ends. Why isn’t there a USB-C to USB-A adaptor included so it can be plugged into a power outlet TO charge it? Did I get shortchanged? And the 3.5mm aux cord absolutely does not fit into the headphone jack. It will fit into my laptop’s audio jack. Did I get the wrong cord, or do I have a major problem here? Thanks.

Since 2021 I have used Situational Awareness headphones starting with the Shokz Open Run.
You next review should be of the SoundCore AeroFit 2 Pro which I am loving.
They actually have two modes, fully open ear, and then you can click them down so that can rest slightly in the ear canal where they provide just enough of a seal so that ANC can be turned on. And it really works!
its no way as powerful as a set of Sony or Bose earbuds, but that’s not going happen with this type. And even with it being slightly in the canal its still very comfortable for long periods of time.
